What is Documentary Family Photography?

Documentary Family Photography is about celebrating your REAL life. Photography that helps you remember what life felt like not just how you looked. The joy, the tantrums (fingers crossed they make great photos), the adventure, the exhaustion, the laughter, the hugs and kisses, the calm and the chaos. Meaningful storytelling photography that will capture a true representation of you family as it is now. REAL LIFE, REAL MOMENTS, REAL MEMORIES!

Day in the life sessions.

A Day In The Life Session is just a day spent doing whatever your family enjoys doing together. The only difference is I’m tagging along for the ride! I typically spend around 6 hours as part of your family, I’ll be there for the fun, the games, the tantrums and the hugs (documenting them not actually having them lol).

Think of me as more of a friend than a photographer. I’m no creepy fly on the wall, I’ll chat to your family throughout the day but I will also back off and let you guys do your thing, whether that is crazy rough and tumble or cozy bedtime hugs….don’t worry I’ll get those photos but I won’t interfere in the moment.

Its all just very relaxed, a fun way of getting photos of your family all together. No need to match clothes, pose or travel to a special location at sunset. Great photos happen wherever great moments happen, that might be going to the beach, a backyard game of cricket, blowing bubbles, having a water fight, reading books, playing a game, cooking……even kids bath time or brushing their teeth at night.

Without sounding too sentimental (I like to keep it light) those little things you do for them everyday that seem mundane will be precious to look back on when they no longer need you in the same way, when they don’t need a hundred hugs a day, when they no longer hold your hand or beg for a piggyback ride. Life is forever changing and we often don’t notice until we look back on photos.

A Day In The Life session is the perfect way to preserve memories of your now, so you never forget and they don’t either. They will appreciate having photos with you (the photographer of the house) in them as well, make sure they remember how much you did for them and how much they are loved.

Hi Rachel,

Thank you so very much for the photos.
We absolutely love all of them.
Our girls laughed a lot when they recalled the moments.
It was such a special experience for all of us.
